Son of Lindsay citizen named in despatches

Mr. William Fayle, Durham St. Lindsay, was greatly interested in reading the reports of the recent successful air raids over Turin. One of the bombing crew on the RCAF attack was his son J.S. Fayle. This young soldier enlisted in Port Hope and last visited his father in Lindsay on Christmas Day, December 25th 1941. Fayle's name was among those mentioned in despatches.

Friends of Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Fayle, Durham Street town, were sorry to hear that their son, Sergeant John Stanley Fayle has been reported missing after one of the big raids over Germany. All hope that more encouraging news will be heard soon.

Sgt. John Fayle R.C.A.F. now presumed dead

Another young life has been sacrificed to the god of war in the person of Sgt. John Stanley Fayle, R.C.A.F., 21-year old son of Mr. Wm. Fayle, 8 Durham St. W., who received notice from Ottawa on Thursday, that for official purposes his son is presumed to have died on Feb. 26.

It is understood that no one of the six members of the crew has been heard of since operations over enemy territory on that night. The father has received an official communication each month for 7 months that his son was missing but now he is believed dead.

The young man employed at Port Hope at the time he enlisted in the Fall of 1940, took his training in Montreal and Guelph, at which latter place he received his wings. He went overseas Christmas of 1941. Sgt. Fayle was born in Cobourg, but received his education in the Public and High Schools of Port Hope.

The family moved to Lindsay four years ago. Mr. Fayle, born on the Isle of Man, is a veteran of the last war, having been a Corporal in the R.C.R. for 4 years and 3 months, seeing war at its worst at Vimy Ridge, Passchendaele and Hill 70.

Other members of the bereaved family are three sisters, Mrs. Allcock, Cobourg, Mrs. Lowe, Port Hope, Frances at home and 2 brothers, Eddie of Southampton (England) Police House and Sgt. Fayle's twin brother, Harry of Hamilton.

Sympathy is extended to the bereaved family.
